JOB DESCRIPTION 

Corporate Design Manager 

This position is a great opportunity for a Designer that desires to grow within a great industry and company like International Fire Protection. This individual will lead a group of 3 – 5 fire sprinkler designers by providing knowledge, support, and training. He or she will work closely with the Division Leaders to schedule and coordinate design. This position is responsible for planning and directing the accomplishments of the design department objectives, as well as performing a wide variety of duties required to maintain the efficient, day-to-day operations of direct reports of the department within the office.  


The Corporate Design Manager should be a self-starter possessing time management, scheduling, staff management and leadership skills and experience. This individual will both perform and oversee the performance of design and coordination for fire sprinkler systems. There will also be growth opportunities through company sponsored leadership development courses and trainings. This individual will also be required to lead by example. 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Support a group of 3-5 fire sprinkler designers by providing leadership and training. 
  • Review construction contract documents and coordinate with sub-contractors and General Contractor/owner to gather the required information to design the project’s sprinkler system. 
  • Thorough use of analytical thinking and problem solving, determine construction feasibility and systems possibilities. 
  • Create detailed drawings through extensive use of AutoCAD, AutoSprink, or HydraCAD type programs. 
  • Coordinate with other trades using BIM/3D modeling. 
  • Create stock list for all material required throughout the project. 
  • Perform hydraulic calculations. 
  • Develop initial schedules for preliminary project work. 
  • Maintain design historical records for future use. 
  • Develop positive and ongoing relationships with customers to ensure the company is meeting customers’ expectations. 
  • Coordinate with other departments within the office to ensure proper handover of job information. 
  • Complete other assigned responsibilities as directed by immediate supervisor or other IFP management personnel.  
  • Continually monitor progress of projects; review reports to ensure compliance with schedule and budgetary guidelines. 
  • Assist/lead during field check stage of the project. 
  • Ensure work complies with codes and permits. 
  • Report to the owner and general contractor about progress and any necessary modifications required. 
  • Knowledge of fire alarm and special hazard design is a plus. 


EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS: 

  • NICET III certification 
  • Five years’ minimum experience in commercial and industrial design is required. 
  • Residential experience is a plus. 


JOB QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Demonstrated ability with AutoCAD, AutoSprink, HydraCAD, or other specialized fire sprinkler layout software. 
  • BIM/3D Coordination experience. 
  • Supervisory experience a plus. 
  • Proven ability and track record of performing work in a timely manner and meeting deadlines. 
  • Detail-oriented. 
  • Possess good communication skills. 
  • Willingness and ability to teach others. 
  • Coordinate and work well with others. 
  • Must pass a drug screen test and a background check. 

 

Compensation & Benefits: 

IFP does not provide benefits for part-time employees under 20 hours. Should you begin working over 20 hours per week in the future, benefits include: 

  • Medical and prescription insurance (Eligible 30 days after start date) 
  • Fifteen PTO days (Eligible 90 days after start of employment, pro-rated first year) 
  • 401K (Eligible after 20 days of work, the first day of the following month) 
  • License, certification, and training fees (included for part-time employees)
