Designer / Project Engineer
Designers are responsible for the accurate design and layout of fire protection systems. This includes limited project management tasks and coordination with other building construction trades. This person will have responsibility for the initial planning of a project, designing, trade coordination, creating the material stock listing, analyzing changes, and solving problems.
This position has a salary range of $54k - $66k depending on experience.
Job Responsibilities
· Reads, interprets construction documents such as drawings, specifications and other contract documents.
· Create detailed drawings through extensive use of AutoCAD, AutoSprink, or HydraCAD type programs.
· Prepares fire protection shop drawings, specifications, equipment submittals and computer hydraulic calculations as needed for compliance with applicable fire protection codes.
· Prepares equipment stock lists and fabrication lists for fabrication of fire protection piping and hangers and purchases material as necessary.
· Surveys existing buildings for accurate, economical installation of fire protection systems.
· Coordinate with other departments within the office to ensure proper handover of job information.
· Generates Request for Information Forms (RFI’s), test certificates and Operation and Maintenance Manuals (O&M’s).
· Maintain design and all functions historical records for future use.
· Attends related training classes, courses and seminars as requested by supervisor.
Job Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- NICET certification preferred but not required. Either “In Training,” or NICET Level I, II, III, or IV certified.
- Demonstrated ability with AutoCAD, AutoSprink, HydraCAD, or other specialized fire sprinkler layout software.
- Proven ability and track record of performing work in a timely manner and meeting deadlines.
- Three years successful construction industry experience with knowledge of Fire Protection industry.
- Supervisory experience is a plus.
- CAD based degree or other applicable degree from a technical school or college preferred.
- Three years' experience in commercial, industrial, and residential design is preferred.
- Must be detail-oriented and skilled in freehand and mechanical lettering and drawing.
- Willing to coordinate and work well with others.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to travel overnight, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Able to pass a post-offer drug test, background and reference checks.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
· Ability to lift 50 pounds.
