Service and Deficiency Sales Representative
Summary
This is an inside sales position. Building and maintaining strong relationships with existing customers is a core responsibility, which includes engaging not only with direct clients but also with our API sister companies, as well as collaborating with electrical and mechanical contractors. A successful candidate for this role would someone who has team first mentality, self-driven, bold, empathetic, and very resourceful. In addition, the individual that has a competitive drive coupled with the exceptional ability to communicate effectively and concisely.
Responsibilities
Customer Solutions & Service Opportunities
- Provide tailored solutions for customers’ fire suppression and/or fire alarm system service needs.
- Identify new service opportunities in collaboration with the account coordinator and inspection sales team.
- Support general service, system upgrades, and system modifications as opportunities arise.
Quoting & Proposals
- Prepare quotes for deficiency repairs based on technician inspection reports.
- Review all quotes with the Service Sales Leader prior to submission.
- Complete spare parts quotes for ongoing projects and for new/existing customers.
- Build cost sheets including labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs (with guidance).
- Draft scopes of work for potential subcontractors, particularly for installation labor.
- Prepare service-specific sales proposals with appropriate guidance.
Customer Engagement & Internal Collaboration
- Visit customer facilities to conduct system surveys and provide consultations.
- Participate in internal organizational meetings, including:
- Monthly Pre-WIP and WIP (project financial) meetings (mandatory).
- Monthly service Pre-WIP and WIP meetings (mandatory).
- Optional weekly project execution meetings (attendance based on availability).
Sales Territory & Growth
- Identify and pursue opportunities for growth within the existing customer base.
- Develop new business within an unrestricted sales territory.
- Assist in quoting service projects or other project work as needed, under the guidance of the Service Sales Leader and/or VP of Sales.
Professional Development & Training
- Actively participate in local/regional fire protection organization meetings (NFSA, NFPA, FSSA, etc.).
- Complete API LMS leadership courses for personal and professional development.
- Spend several days in the field each month during initial onboarding to shadow field leaders.
- Participate in manufacturer training once foundational system knowledge is established.
Performance Review & Development
- Conduct bi-weekly check-ins with the Service Sales Leader during the first year.
- Participate in monthly (or more frequent) check-ins after year one to support continued growth and development.
Qualifications
- Must be 21 years of age
- Must have high school diploma
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Valid US drivers license.
- Proficient in Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams).
- Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills
- Sales background (preferred)
- Must pass background check and drug screening
